Day Zero
I accidently came across the following site tonight: http://dayzeroproject.com/
I’m building up my own list of 101 things to do in 1001 days and immediatly finished one of them. I got one other person to start a list of their own. Since one of my goals is to make a post about every goal I achieve I figured I’d introduce it into this post about telling you I found the site itself. So yeah, go me and hopefully I can work the entire list.
Thor
Again, spoilers could be ahead if you haven’t seen this movie so just stop reading here if you hate getting spoiled. Otherwise feel free to read on.
So I just finished watching Thor. Part of me is watching this because it’s part of the build up to The Avengers movie, which I plan to see ever since I saw the after credit scene on Iron Man. Let me first say I have little knowledge of Thor in the Marvel universe. From the ones that are being build up to be in the Avengers I probably am most familiar with Iron Man and the Hulk. That being said, I didn’t go into this movie as a die hard Marvel fanboy or -girl. Did I enjoy it? yes. Did I think there were some lacking parts? Oh definitely.
The opening was fantastic, it set the mood for a film where mythology will be mixed in with modern day life. Then we get Thor on his way of becoming king and my first thought was ‘What a smug fella.’ which I’m pretty sure is how the makers intended it to be. We also see the first hint of the jealousy Loki holds against his brother and the doubt with their father in making Thor king. What follows is more action, we are introduced to Thor’s band of brothers (and one sister of course) and we learn about the, perhaps a bit obvious, fact there are traitors within their home. The scene involving Thor’s banishment was quite powerful on the emotional side.
Now on Earth… Well the fact is I like how they played out Thor being new to this world and modern day people reacting to it all. While the taser scene left me with a bit of a meh feeling, the scene in the hospital with the injection and passing out of Thor made me laugh as it should have. Now Thor’s time on Earth is what feels lacking in this movie. I found the parts where they cut back to Asgard far more interesting as we see Loki’s true nature unfold and when we get back to Earth we see… Well not enough of what we are supposed to see.
I get it, Thor can’t reclaim his hammer till he has learned valuable lessons Odin feels he has to learn to become a worthy king. We just don’t get to see enough of it. Sure the scene where he demands a horse and what follows made me laugh but as for character development we don’t see enough. I get why he is granted wielding rights over Mjölnir again but it’s just… The decision to attempt diplomacy instead of fighting was what unlocked it but how he gets there isn’t portrayed enough in my opinion.
Leaves the fact we are left with about half an hour of action involving more Thor ass kicking and even then, it lacks. So yeah, I enjoyed the movie but I felt they missed an opportinuty to make it a great movie instead of simply enjoyable.
After credit scene was another fine addition to the whole Avengers build up by the way. Did not expect Loki to be involved in it.
